What a blast we had on this unforgettable adventure with our group of lovely ladies all the way from Canada!

Springtime in the mountains can be a bit unpredictable with its hit-or-miss weather, but we lucked out and found ourselves in the sweet spot of minimal rain and maximum views. Nestled beneath the majestic Queen peak of the North, we spent the day soaking up the fresh mountain air and hiking to our heart's content.

Säntis reigns as the highest peak in the Alpstein massif of northeastern Switzerland, soaring to an impressive elevation of 2,502 meters (8,209 feet) above sea level. Not only does it boast breathtaking views, but it also hosts a meteorological observatory that has diligently collected weather data since 1882. Visitors have the opportunity to delve into the fascinating realm of weather forecasting and climate research, gaining insights into the intricate science that shapes our understanding of the natural world.

Säntis also holds a profound place in Swiss folklore and culture, often depicted in traditional Swiss art, music, and literature, thanks to its distinctive silhouette and rugged beauty that have inspired countless artists and poets over the centuries (including our lovely group of ladies)! The surrounding region is steeped in a rich history of mountain ranching and dairy farming, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional Swiss mountain life. Exploring local alpine farms and sampling artisanal cheeses and other dairy products provides an immersive experience into the region's cultural heritage. Additionally, Säntis is nestled within the Alpstein Nature Park, a protected area renowned for its diverse flora and fauna. As visitors traverse the mountain trails, they can marvel at rare alpine flowers, spot ibex, chamois, and golden eagles, and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of this breathtaking landscape.

Our journey took us to Seealpsee from the lift station, passing through a forest coming to life and streams of newly melted snow. The iconic peak of Säntis kept us company the whole way, peeking out at us from behind the trees. We strolled through pastures adorned with wildflowers just about ready to bloom until we reached the serene lake, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and got artsy with some watercolor painting. After unleashing our inner artists, we dipped our toes in the water and continued our leisurely stroll around the lake.

With a focus on fun and adventure, and a chill vibe to match, we made sure to pause for a beer break with a killer view. Seealpsee with Säntis in the background was simply breathtaking, and we even spotted some Chamios grazing in the fields nearby. After taking it all in, we made our way down and wrapped up the day with a visit to the charming village of Appenzell. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day, and we can't wait for more exciting adventures to come!
