Discover one of Switzerland's most stunning and azure lakes – a place that lingered on our must-visit list until we decided it was time to experience its beauty. Aware of its popularity, especially among tourists, we strategically planned our visit in October, during the low season. A trail unfolded, leading us along the tranquil shores of the lake and then ascending behind onto the mountain. Close to the lake, the crowds persisted, but, true to our exploration spirit, the farther we ventured from the main hub, the more the serenity embraced us.

The visit, undeniably, is justified by the awe-inspiring views, even if navigating through the crowds requires a bit of patience. Our journey commenced with a hike from Kandersteg to the lake, and then onto our main trail. The ascent from Kandersteg proved to be a super easy and accessible route for all, adding a sense of fulfillment to our journey on foot, rather than opting for the lift. Yet, we recognize that if you're with kids or elderly companions and prefer to conserve your energy for walking around the lake trails, the lift provides a convenient alternative. Upon reaching the top, a shuttle service awaits, whisking you from the gondola to the lakeside restaurant.

As always, the real magic lies beyond the well-trodden path. Venture away from the main area, and you'll discover pockets of solitude amid nature's embrace. Consider taking the first ascent beyond the lake, leading to a vast field adorned with grass-covered rocks – an idyllic spot for a picnic with an unrivaled view. Amidst the ebb and flow of visitors, there's always a realm of unexplored beauty waiting to be discovered.
